Each child will have a pre-admission meeting with an appointed staff member to assess the suitability of the school to the child and the readiness of the child to join our school. The parents will be expected to answer a set of questions regarding the family and the child (which may include subjects like learning readiness, personal hygiene and social behaviour). During the interview, the child may be assessed for certain academic criteria like literacy and numeracy (this is usually done unobtrusively but a written test may be requested by the staff member). In most cases, previous school records will be reviewed as well and, in some instances, the previous school may be contacted for clarification. While many parents often feel that the match between school (or a certain class) and the child is unambiguous, it is still entirely at Star International School's discretion that a child is admitted. Below is a table outlining the statutory age limits (according to the KHDA) for each academic level:
FS1 3 on Sep 15
FS2 4 on Sep 15
Y1 5 on Sep 15
Y2 6 on Sep 15
Y3 7 on Sep 15
Y4 8 on Sep 15
